Get In Touch

Choosing the right preschool can feel overwhelming for busy families. You want a warm place where your child grows and thrives. A play-based preschool offers exactly that kind of nurturing start.

At Lil’ People’s World, we believe children learn best through play. Our teachers create joyful, hands-on experiences every single day. As a result, children build confidence, curiosity, and strong social skills.

Families across Sammamish, Bellevue, and the greater Seattle area want quality early learning. Therefore, understanding how play-based learning works matters. Let’s explore what this approach offers your child.

What Is a Play-Based Preschool?

A play-based preschool uses guided play as the main teaching tool. Children explore, imagine, and discover through purposeful activities. Meanwhile, teachers gently guide learning without heavy worksheets.

This approach honors how young children actually think. For example, stacking blocks teaches math and problem-solving naturally. Pretend play builds language and emotional understanding too.

How Play Supports Learning

Play is not just fun. In fact, it is serious work for growing brains. Because of this, experts around the world champion play-based methods.

The National Association for the Education of Young Children highlights developmentally appropriate practice. This means matching activities to each child’s age and stage. As a result, learning feels natural and pressure-free.

Skills Children Build Through Play

Play develops the whole child. Additionally, it strengthens skills that support future school success. Here are a few key areas:

  • Social skills: Sharing, turn-taking, and teamwork.
  • Language: New words and clear communication.
  • Problem-solving: Testing ideas and finding solutions.
  • Fine motor skills: Cutting, drawing, and building.
  • Confidence: Trying new things without fear.

Why Sammamish and Bellevue Families Choose Play-Based Learning

The Seattle area is full of caring, involved parents. Many want more than early academics for their children. Instead, they want happy, curious kids who love learning.

Play-based programs meet that goal beautifully. Furthermore, they help children feel safe and valued. This foundation supports every future classroom experience.

What Happens During a Play-Based Day?

Every day blends structure with freedom. First, children arrive to a calm, inviting classroom. Then, they choose from thoughtful learning centers.

Next, teachers introduce group activities and stories. Meanwhile, small groups explore art, science, and building. Finally, outdoor play lets children move and explore nature.

Learning Centers That Spark Curiosity

Classrooms include several themed play areas. Each center encourages a different type of learning. For example, common centers include:

  • Dramatic play: Kitchens, dress-up, and pretend adventures.
  • Blocks and building: Early math and engineering.
  • Art station: Creativity and self-expression.
  • Reading nook: Early literacy and quiet time.
  • Sensory table: Exploration through touch and texture.

Balancing Play and Routine

Young children thrive with predictable routines. Therefore, we balance free play with gentle structure. This rhythm helps children feel secure and confident.

Additionally, consistent routines ease transitions between activities. As a result, children learn independence and self-control. These habits support kindergarten readiness beautifully.

Preparing for Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten

Many parents wonder about school readiness. Play-based learning prepares children in meaningful ways. Moreover, it builds a genuine love of learning.

Our preschool and pre-kindergarten curriculum grows with your child. First, we nurture early social and emotional skills. Then, we gently introduce letters, numbers, and problem-solving.

Pre-School Curriculum

We use a teaching strategy called “Creative Curriculum,” when educating our Pre-Schoolers. Creative Curriculum primarily focuses on:

Creative Curriculum for preschool is a comprehensive, science based, early childhood education curriculum that has demonstrated through studies to have a positive impact on the quality of the child’s classroom conduct, as well as improvements to cognitive and social-emotional development.

Creative Curriculum promotes positive physical, social, and cognitive outcomes for children through a variety of activities including fine motor, large motor, sensory, art, dramatic play, and science activities.

Toddler Curriculum

We use a teaching strategy called, “Creative Curriculum,” when educating our Toddlers. Creative Curriculum primarily focuses on:

The goal of our toddler curriculum is to help children develop both their body and their minds in a safe and healthy place. These early, positive interactions with caring adults can give young children the confidence they need to explore their surroundings and take joy in their day-to-day discoveries.

Examples of their day-to-day activities can be found in the weekly sample schedule included below.

Infant Curriculum

Our daily infant curriculum is broken up into four categories of development:

01
Physical Experience
To assure our infants reach their appropriate physical development milestones, we employ our Physical Experiences curriculum. Physical Experiences utilizes motor activities that focus on both large and small muscle development.
02
Listening and Talking Experience
Before the age of one, infants are learning to understand the things that we are saying. For this reason, we provide a Listening and Talking Experience, which includes reading books, singing songs, and talking about the surroundings to aid in their communication development.
03
Creative Experience
Creative Experience allows infants to explore the many beauties that arts and crafts expose our minds to. The process of ‘art with infants’ enables our children to explore and experiment with different smells, textures, and artistic tools as a means of facilitating an early understanding of creative thought and design.
04
Learning From the World
Learning from the World introduces the infant to the world around us, allowing us to aid in their sensory development within a free, yet controlled environment. Examples of these activities can be found in the weekly sample schedule included below.
